No Chance Society
Brave New World opened my eyes to a new outlook on my life. Starting with the middle of Chapter one were Mr.Foster says that in this fictional Utopian society, "We decant our babies as socializied human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future..." He was going to say "future World controllers," but correcting himself, said "future Directors of Hatcheries," instead. Basically these people are born into their assigned caste with no freedom to make a better life for themselves. The main reason this had impact on me was because a couple days ago it was the United States of America's Independence Day. And sure we all had a good time celebrating with our families and friends by lighting fireworks and eating, but I believe for most of us it didn't even cross our mind that we live in a country that its main principle is freedom. That we have the choice to become something great. Our possibilities are endless in this country, and sad to say this "fictional book" is actually true in most of the other countries around the world such as China. Eventhough this book does keep referring to how our lifestyles are in fact instable which Mustapha Mond brings up several times, but if people did not have freedom to think and do, there wouldn't be a society like the one we live in. All the great inventors that brought the United States to were it is today would have probably thought the "impossible" but would probably not have took the action to achieve their goal. And if they did take action, they would have been killed. Our society may be somewhat unstable right now, but due to our freedom someday it will become stable again.
